Awtar Ethiopia’s Version of Spotify Launched

Awtar, Ethiopia based music streaming service with the ability to purchase albums online, was launched on May 31, 2019 at an official ceremony held at Sheraton Addis. Several old and upcoming artists, including producers and media personalities, attended the event.

The primary purpose of the app is to curb a growing content infringement of artists works both online as well as offline by providing a cheap alternative to buy albums for consumers. It also provides the artists cost-effective way to produce their record.

According to Artist Jhonny Ragga, the app makes it even impossible from sharing purchased songs through Bluetooth and Xender. Currently, Awtar sells an album at 15 birr and a single song at 4 birr.

The app currently is only available for play store users in Ethiopia and ones integrated with international payment (PayPal, Mastercard..). It will be available for users all around the world.
