Ethiopian government announces ceasefire in Tigray

The Ethiopian government has decided to end its conflict with the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) for humanitarian reasons, the government spokesman’s office said in a statement today.

The statement said many people in the Tigray region are being displaced to neighboring states in search of humanitarian assistance. The statement said the government’s decision would be effective only if the Tigrayan rebels are determined to take similar action.
