Betty G Won Album of The Year at Afrima Music Award

Betty G, Ethiopia’s artist becomes the first Ethiopian to win Album of The Year at Afrima Music Award. The artist was amongst the top nominees with six nominations including, Album of the Year (for Wegegta, June 2018); Artiste of the Year; Best Artiste in African Jazz; Best Artiste in African Rock; Revelation of the African Continent and Best Female Artiste in Eastern Africa.

According to Eyob Yisakal who is the managing director of Yisakal Entertainment, Betty G has already won three awards from a total of six nominations. The categories Betty G wins are listed as follows.

  • Best Female Artist in Eastern Africa
    Betty G / Ethiopia / Mengedegna
  • Album of the Year
    Betty G / Ethiopia / Wegegta
  • Revelation of the Year
    Betty G / Ethiopia / Ere Mane

Betty G has already released two albums. The first was her debut album “Manew Fitsum” in 2015 and in 2018 she released her second album titled Wegegta. Her second album was produced by Yamlu Molla who was also one of the nominees for best producer. Unfortunately, Yamlu was not a winner of the award. 

Unlike many Ethiopian artists, Betty G is known for her duo works with other African artists. Her music genre explores contemporary, traditional Ethiopian songs, soft rock, and pop. The artist has mainly been focusing on promoting Ethiopia’s music at a global stage.
