The Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is pleased to announce that it will be naming the meeting hall at its Headquarters in Addis Ababa after the late human rights defender Professor Mesfin Woldemariam (1929-2020). EHRC Chief Commissioner Daniel Bekele made the announcement during his keynote speech at an event organized today at the Inter Luxury Hotel (formerly Intercontinental Hotel) commemorating the Professor and formally inaugurating the Foundation established in his honor.

Daniel Bekele said on the occasion that “Professor Mesfin Woldemariam’s efforts and success in introducing the concept of human rights and establishing the first Ethiopian organization that works on human rights should take particular importance in recalling his many contributions”. The naming of the meeting hall comes in recognition of this achievement. He has also said that a formal inauguration ceremony will take place.
