UN Secretary-General welcomes the release of political prisoners

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres says he welcomes the release of several prisoners, including key opposition figures in Ethiopia.

“I support all parties to work together to end the conflict and reach a lasting ceasefire, as well as a credible and comprehensive national dialogue and reconciliation process,” he said.

Guterres: I will work with all stakeholders to end the conflict in Ethiopia and restore peace and stability.

Guterres urged all parties to build on this significant confidence-building step by agreeing to a cessation of hostilities and a lasting ceasefire, as well as launching a credible and inclusive national dialogue and reconciliation process.
