The House of Peoples’ Representatives has today lifted a state of emergency in the country.

After deliberating on the resolution of the state of emergency, the House of Representatives voted unanimously in favor of the resolution with 63 abstentions.

Following this decision: The Board of Inquiry into the Proclamation of the State of Emergency has decided to report to the relevant body within one month from the date of its issuance.

Similarly, it was decided that the judiciary should complete its proceedings in connection with the implementation of the state of emergency in the formal justice system.

The Council of Ministers declared a state of emergency on October 23, 2014, at the House of Peoples’ Representatives, Proclamation No. 1264, as the TPLF and its allies posed a serious threat to the country’s existence and sovereignty and could not be prevented by regular law enforcement. It will be recalled that it was approved in 2014.

The Council of Ministers, in an emergency meeting on January 18, 2014, decided to extend the state of emergency for six months, recognizing that the situation had changed and that it was necessary to declare a state of emergency. Following the submission to the House of Representatives, the House today debated the issue and lifted the proclamation.
