The Chinese Foreign Minister’s visit to Ethiopia is part of this ongoing effort to strengthen relations and cooperation between the two countries. In addition to discussing various issues with high-level Ethiopian government officials and the African Union Commission Chairperson, the Chinese Foreign Minister is also expected to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Africa CDC Headquarters project in Addis Ababa.

The Africa CDC Headquarters building is a significant undertaking, funded and equipped by the Chinese government. When completed, the building will include a range of facilities and resources to support the work of the Africa CDC, including an emergency operation center, data center, laboratory, resource center, briefing rooms, training center, conference center, offices, and expatriate apartments.

The Africa CDC is an important technical institution that coordinates disease prevention, surveillance, and control efforts across the continent in partnership with national public health institutes and ministries of health in Member States. The new headquarters building is expected to be one of the best-equipped centers for disease control in Africa, and will provide a valuable resource for the African Union and its Member States in their efforts to address public health challenges.

Overall, the Chinese Foreign Minister’s visit to Ethiopia and the construction of the Africa CDC Headquarters building highlight the ongoing efforts by China and Africa to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties and cooperation. These efforts are likely to have far-reaching implications for both China and Africa, as they work together to address a range of challenges and opportunities in the years ahead.

China and Africa have a long history of economic and diplomatic relations, with China consistently ranking as one of Africa’s top trading partners. In recent years, China has increased its engagement with Africa, including through infrastructure projects, trade, and investment.
