Unlawful Bishops Appointment Sparks Uproar in Ethiopian Orthodox Church: Patriarchs Call for Emergency Meeting

 His Holiness Abune Matthias I, Patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church;  His Eminence Abune Abraham, Archbishop of the Diocese of Bahir Dar, is the head of the General Church.

 His Holiness said in a statement that the issue of the illegal “appointment of bishops” was conducted illegally without the recognition of the Holy Synod.

 1. Popes from home and abroad are called upon to come to the Patriarchate urgently in the coming few days. 

 2. The government should take legal responsibility for the damage caused to the church & that will ultimately affect the country also. 

 3. His Holiness offers to the faithful and the Church to keep prayer as they do.

The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church has issued a statement regarding the illegal appointment of bishops within the church. His Holiness Abune Matthias I, Patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, and His Eminence Abune Abraham, Archbishop of the Diocese of Bahir Dar, have jointly condemned the actions as a violation of the Church’s authority and governance.

In the statement, His Holiness called for an urgent gathering of Popes from both within Ethiopia and abroad to convene at the Patriarchate in the coming days. He emphasized the importance of addressing this issue in a timely and organized manner to ensure the preservation of the integrity and unity of the Church.

Furthermore, His Holiness also placed blame on the government for its role in allowing such illegal appointments to take place and called on them to take legal responsibility for the damage caused to the Church. He also emphasized that the harm caused to the Church will ultimately have a detrimental effect on the country as a whole.

In light of this situation, His Holiness urged the faithful and members of the Church to continue to offer prayers and remain steadfast in their faith. He assured them that the Church will continue to work towards finding a resolution to this issue and reaffirmed his commitment to leading the Church with integrity and transparency.
