Addis Ababa City Administration Implements Mandatory Fayda National ID Registration System

The mandatory registration number system has been established for all government institutions under the Addis Ababa City Administration.

The Director General of the Addis Ababa Civil Registration Authority, Ato Yonas Alemayehu, told Bisrat Radio and Television that the registration number system is mandatory for all government institutions under the Addis Ababa City Administration.

Accordingly, detailed discussions were held with key city institutions, including the Trade Bureau, Land Administration Bureau, Revenue Bureau, Housing Development and Administration Bureau, Traffic Management Agency, Driver and Vehicle Inspection License Authority, Government Procurement Agency, and Construction Permit and Inspection Authority. These discussions focused on the readiness and implementation of the system.

The current status of general registration and the implementation of the mandatory system were presented at the National Identification Office in the presence of Ato Alemayehu Ejigu, the Agency’s Director General, Ato Yonas Alemayehu, and the heads of the respective institutions.

The digital foundation, which underpins the city’s transformation into a smart city, was highlighted as essential for inclusive, efficient services, equitable resource utilization, effective resource management, and ensuring peace and security. Ato Yonas Alemayehu emphasized that this digital foundation has been set as a prerequisite for accessing government services in Addis Ababa. He also noted that government employees in the city are included in the same system.

He further explained that preparations are underway to deploy new mobile registration units in addition to the existing registration options provided through the agency’s structure, aiming to enhance service accessibility.

Ato Yonas Alemayehu stated that institutions have made digital foundation registration mandatory for accessing services and that the implementation process within the city administration is being evaluated.
