Addis Ababa — 18 February 2026

Ethiopian Airlines has announced plans to begin passenger services to three new domestic destinations—Negele Borena, Gore Metu, and Debre Markos—by mid-April 2026, following the inauguration of newly constructed airports in the towns.

The carrier, Africa’s largest airline network operator, will operate three weekly flights to each destination. With the addition of these routes, Ethiopian Airlines’ domestic network will expand to 26 destinations, strengthening connectivity across the country.

Group CEO Mesfin Tasew said the expansion marks a significant milestone for both the airline and Ethiopia’s broader development agenda.

“The launch of services to these new airports reflects our continued commitment to improving domestic connectivity and supporting regional economic growth,” he said. “By expanding safe, reliable air transport across the country, we aim to integrate communities, unlock business opportunities, and contribute to national development.”

The move comes as Ethiopian Airlines continues to modernize domestic travel through infrastructure upgrades and service improvements. In 2025, the airline inaugurated Yabello Airport, bringing its domestic destination count at the time to 23.
