Addis Ababa, October 15, 2017 (FBC) – A high-level Ethiopian delegation, led by Finance Minister Ahmed Shide, engaged in discussions with key officials from the US Department of State and the US Department of Treasury. The Ethiopian delegation met with Ambassador Molly Fee, Assistant Secretary for African Affairs, and Brent Nieman, Assistant Secretary for International Affairs.
During the meeting, Minister Ahmed Shide outlined Ethiopia’s current economic and political landscape and shared updates on the government’s ongoing macroeconomic reform initiatives. He highlighted the crucial role of support from development partners as Ethiopia seeks to negotiate a common framework for debt management in collaboration with the G20 member nations.
In response, US officials commended the Ethiopian government’s commitment to implementing meaningful reforms and reiterated their support for these efforts. Minister Shide assured that Ethiopia remains committed to working alongside the United States on establishing a debt management framework through sovereign debt negotiations.
The discussion concluded with both sides expressing a mutual commitment to strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Ethiopia and the United States.
