Ethiopian Airlines has entered into a purchase agreement to acquire ten Boeing 777 freighters to maintain its competitiveness in the global cargo services sector.
The agreement was signed today in Addis Ababa by Mr. Mesfin Tasew, Group CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, and Brad McMullen, Senior Vice President of Global Commercial Sales and Marketing at Boeing.
A distinguishing feature of this agreement is that eight of the ten state-of-the-art aircraft are high-capacity B777-8F freighters. This acquisition is reported to play a critical role in substantially solidifying the airline’s leadership in the global cargo market and ensuring the sustained momentum of its future growth.
Speaking on the occasion, Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Mr. Mesfin Tasew stated that the airline’s close partnership with Boeing will continue to strengthen. He noted that beyond modernizing its cargo operations, the acquisition will elevate the airline’s capacity to new heights by expanding its fleet size.
Over the past year alone, the airline transported 897,000 metric tons of cargo, marking a 16 percent growth. The new acquisition is expected to play a vital role in sustaining this growth well into the future.
