Ethiopian American Businesswoman Named Among Top 20 African Heroes

Ethiopian-American businesswoman Dr. Wuleta Lemma has been named in the top 20 Africa’s Business Heroes by The Chinese billionaire Jack Ma’s philanthropy program, Africa Netpreneur Prize Initiative (ANPI).

The competition announced recently that the 20 finalists selected from the pool of over 22,000 applicants and they have passed to the semi-final of the competition.

Dr. Wuleta is the founder and CEO of Ethiopia based startup Lalibela Global Networks, working on transforming Africa’s health sector to digitalization.

The company provided Patient-Centered Connected Health solutions that technologically empower patients to have their health records, with five clinical solutions developed by the company.

Additionally, the startup company composed of health and IT professionals, has engaged in providing training and mentorships to IT graduates in technology and innovation especially focusing on women.

Dr. Wuleta represented Ethiopia in the list of finalists composed of 14 African countries, where 50 percent of the candidates are women.

Jack Ma founded the competition after being impressed with the high entrepreneurship potential in the continent during his visit to Africa in 2019. 

Last year, the award has honored 10 African business heroes and awarded a shared prize of 1 million USD.

This year, the 10 winners will split a 1.5 mil USD grant to accelerate their businesses and they will be awarded in an online broadcasted grand ceremony.
