Breaking News: Ethiopian Orthodox Church Faces Illegal Takeover, Calls for Global Solidarity The Ethiopian Orthodox Church has issued a statement claiming that its religious, canonical, and administrative structures have been taken over in a coup d’etat by those who were illegally appointed as bishops. The Church alleges that these groups are causing significant harm, with the help of government forces, by forcibly invading pontificates and offices. Despite the Church’s efforts to seek justice and enforcement of the law, the government has failed to uphold the rights of the Church and support the illegal groups.

In response, the Holy Synod of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church has called for Christians worldwide to show solidarity through fasting and prayer. From February 6th to February 8th, 2023, the Church is encouraging all to wear black clothing as a symbol of perseverance and truth. Black is a symbol of knowledge and truth, and by wearing it, the Church hopes to demonstrate its strength and resilience in the face of adversity.

The Nineveh fast, which the Church is observing during this time, is a period of fasting and prayer dedicated to seeking divine intervention. By entrusting themselves to God through fasting and prayer, the Church hopes to bring awareness to its struggle and to demonstrate the power of unity and solidarity.

The Ethiopian Orthodox Church invites all Christians to join in fasting and prayer during this period, to show support for the Church and to pray for a resolution to this crisis. The Church hopes that by coming together in prayer, it will find the strength and guidance to overcome this difficult time.
