Ethiopia’s First Female Director of Ethiopian National Theater Returns Home

Ethiopia’s first female director of the Ethiopian National Theater Artist Alemtsehay Wedajo returns home after 27 years in exile. This morning she was welcomed by her former colleagues, fans, and friends who are actively engaged in the art sector including government spokesperson Ato Meles Alem. Alemtsehay was not the only artist who arrived in Addis today rather she was joined by renowned artist Tekelle Desita, Artist Abebe Belew, and Alemayehu Gebrehiwot.

While living in exile Alemtsehay Wedajo established Tayitu Cultural Center. Since its launch in 200 Tayitu Cultural Center produced more than 35 stage plays and hosted more than 150 poetic nights. She also showcased her artworks in more than 17 states.

Apart from her works in theater and poet Alemtsehay Wedajo is very well known for the number of lyrics she contributed for notable artists. So far she has written more than 400 lyrics that were performed by more than 40 artists including Tilahun Gessesse, Mahmoud Ahmed, Aster Awoke, Tewodros Teshome, Ephrem Tamiru and so on.
