Ethio-Eritrea Oil Pipeline
Following Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s meeting with Reem Al Hashimy, UAE’s Minister of State for International Cooperation, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced it’s plan to build an oil pipeline linking Addis Ababa and Assab, a port city in Eritrea.
Ethiopian-Eritrean-UAE Tripartite Summit
Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed and Eritrea’s President Isaias Afeworki received the Order of Sayed, United Arab Emirates’ highest honor, from Abu Dhabi’s Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan during the Ethiopian-Eritrean-UAE Tripartite Summit in the Abu Dhabi Presidential Palace.
Abiy Ahmed’s Mentoship Program
Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed established a mentorship program that has promised to provide scholarships for Gold Medal graduates from government universities to go abrad adn further thier education. The PM believes this program will cultivate young leaders that will transform the nation in the future. The UAE has announced that to grant 50 scholarship opportunities to the program.
$3 Billion Aid from UAE to Ethiopia
“The United Arab Emirates has pledged a total of $3 billion in aid and investments to Ethiopia.” $1 billion will be deposited in Ethiopia’s central bank to alleviate some of the foreign currency shortage. The rest $2 billion is planned to be invested in tourism, renewable energy, and agriculture.
DP World Planning to Take Over Transport to and from Ethiopia
The DP World, a known port operator company, is planning to transport goods from Berbera to Ethiopia. Berbera is a port Ethiopia is developing in Somaliland.
Ethiopian Prisoners to be Released in UAE
“The Ethiopian government has announced that all its nationals being held in jails in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are due to be released soon.”
