Eritrean Professor Asmerom Legesse and author of the OROMO DEMOCRACY: An Indigenous African Political System, received an honorary degree from Addis Ababa University.
The Harvard professor also wrote, Gada: Three Approaches to the Study of African Society.
The anthropologist Asmerom is well known for the relentless efforts he has done to introduce Gada system to the world.
Two years ago, the retired professor saw the fruits of his 50 years hard work when the UNESCO adopted Gada, the five-century-old constitution of the Oromo of Ethiopia, as one of the world intangible heritage.
An honorary degree has exactly the same description as an earned doctorate in some universities.
