Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi (Formajo) just arrived this morning in Addis Ababa for an official visit. The President was received by PM Abiy at Bole International airport. Piror to the Somalia President arrival Prime Minister Abiy was on a tour visiting South Sudan and Eritrea.
According to Prime Minister Office of Ethiopia, President Abdullahi will have a discussion with PM Abiy Ahmed on bilateral and regional issues.
This visit is part of Pm Abiy Ahmed’s diplomatic work to promote peace and, regional economic integration. Last week PM Abiy received Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta. The two leaders had inaugurated Debre Birhan Industry zone and went to Eritrea and held trilateral discussions with President Isaias Afewerki. And finally, PM Abiy and President Isaias travelled to Juba and held more talks on border range issues with South Sudan president Salva Kiir.
Last June PM Abiy have travelled to Mogadishu, and they have agreed to “strengthen their brotherly bilateral relations” and to collaborate with the AU in seeking solutions to problems on the continent. And last Month Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi visited Ethiopia and agreed to work together with Government of Somalia. These issues are more likely to be discussed on the meeting of President Formajo and Prime Minster Abiy.
Ethiopia has more than 4,200 troops who are officially serving as part of the African Union Mission in Somalia. Besides, several thousand Ethiopian troops operate in various parts of Somalia outside the AMISOM mandate but under a bilateral agreement with Somalia.
