The Federal Attorney General is pressing charges against 26 former officials and employees of the National Intelligence and Security Services, including former NISS Chief Getachew Assefa.
The other three officials who were charged with absentia includes-Atsebha Gidey, Assefa Belay, and Shishay Leul.
The defendants are suspected of gross human rights violations such as torture, forced confessions, sodomy, rape, electrocution, and arbitrary detention of people including in secret facilities.
Getachew Assefa was fired by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed in 2018 as part of the prime minister reform. Right after his firing, the former security chief traveled to Tigray.
