Ethio telecom announced on its Twitter account, yesterday that “an agreement reached between Ethio telecom and Safaricom to apply equal termination tariff rate on voice call.” According to the announcement, Ethio telecom had made a call to operators in Africa to apply equal termination rate in January 2019, in order to contribute integration among African countries.
Safaricom responded positively for this call and agreed to implement it starting 10th June 2019. The agreement allows applying fordable interconnect voice call tariff among the two operators.
Recently Ethio telecom delegates led by the CEO Frehiwot Tamru have made a two days visit in Kenya. On their visit, the two companies discussed to further implement the equal interconnect termination with other operators in Africa as well. According to Ethio telecom report, Ethio telecom and Safaricom has an existing partnership in various areas, including international gateway and interconnect.
Additionally, the two telecom companies agreed to have a further partnership on making Ethio telecom member of East Africa One Network Area Roaming Initiative which is aimed to create affordable access to roaming services for both voice and data; expanding affordability of international gateway and enabling prepaid customers to use roaming services.
