The Addis Ababa Transport Bureau announced that it is working to raise funds for the electric bus operation in Addis Ababa.
The bureau said it is working to raise funds to procure buses from foreign and domestic stakeholders. The office said that electric buses would be charged at night and serviced throughout the day. The buses will be tested on Sheger and Anbessa buses, and four corridors near Shegole Depot have been identified.
The first corner begins from the new market – Qera, the second lane is Wingate, and the destination is Ayer tena.
The third corridor will be from Legehar to the Victory Gate, and the fourth corridor will be from Asco.
The distance from the depot, their connection to the BRT corners, and market areas are the criteria for selecting a test application for the corridors.
During the workshop, the Addis Ababa transport bureau expressed its plan to replace diesel-powered transit buses with electric buses by developing a BRT corridor to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases, prevent climate change and reduce health risks of the community and it would further expand its reach by studying other corners in the city.
