The Weeknd still warble about rough sex on “Dawn FM,” but with a softer edge, in exquisitely rendered tunes lush with echoes of Michael Jackson and Depeche Mode.
The Weeknd new album dropped on Thursday night by hosting a live twitch stream with Amazon Music. The album features several artists, including Quincy Jones, Tyler, the Creator, Lil Wayne, and After Hours producer Oneohtrix Point Never. The album featured B.F.F. and neighbor Jim Carry were “thrilled to play a part in his symphony.”
The album consists of 16-track L.P. features the hit single “take my breath” and other collaborations.
Yet, in the Weeknd’s telling, this album is as much about manifesting contentment as about reflecting it. In a statement, the 31-year-old singer, born Abel Tesfaye, said he started writing “Dawn FM” after setting aside a gloomier project he decided was too “emotionally detrimental” to continue to work on.
