The Amhara Regional State Supreme Court has heard the case of former Commander of the Special Forces, Gen. Tefera Mamon, in today’s hearing, The Reporter reported. The regional police told the court that they had completed their investigation into the suspect and were preparing to send the case file to the prosecutor.
The state prosecutor said he understood that the police investigation was over and asked the court to give him 15 days to file charges.
The suspect’s lawyer appealed to the court, saying that if the investigating police had completed their investigation, the suspect should not be denied bail and that the suspect would not be able to hide from the law because of his reputation.
The trial court adjourned the hearing, prompting prosecutors to comment on the bail application. In response, the prosecutor stated that the suspect was a terrorist and that other media-related charges could be filed against him, and asked the court not to grant bail to the suspect.
After hearing arguments from prosecutors and defense attorneys, the court rescheduled the case for a hearing on the bail application.
