PM expresses hope that Ethiopia-Somalia relations will be further strengthened
Addis Ababa: June 26, 2014 (FBC) The Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed, expressed hope that Ethiopia and Somalia will further strengthen their bilateral relations.
Speaking in Mogadishu on the occasion of the inauguration of the new President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, the Prime Minister expressed satisfaction with the peaceful transition of power in Somalia.
He said Ethiopia has pursued a foreign policy based on mutual development and development in recent years, adding that the two countries have opened a new path in regional ties.
He said the diplomatic gains made in the past few years would be further strengthened and expanded by working with the new Somali president.
He reaffirmed the Ethiopian government’s efforts to further strengthen the relationship between Ethiopia and Somalia.
He said Ethiopia will provide the necessary cooperation and support to the new President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
“We cannot guarantee peace and development without the cooperation and support of our neighbors,” he said.
In his speech, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed wished President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud a successful career.
For his part, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said he will work to create an economically strong and peaceful Somalia.
“We will build strong cooperation with the Horn of Africa countries and the rest of the world,” he said, adding that areas of cooperation would be to fight trade, economy and terrorism.
