The Ethiopian athletics team, which scored a decisive victory in the 18th World Athletics Championship held in Oregon, USA, received a warm welcome when it arrives in Addis Ababa.
When the members of the athletic delegation arrived at the Bole International Airport, they were warmly welcomed by senior government officials.
The Minister of Culture and Sports, Kejela Merdasa, Minister of Culture and Sports, State Ambassador Mesfen Chernat, Mayor of Addis Ababa, Adanech Abebe, Minister of Women and Social Affairs Dr. Ergoge Tesfaye and others were present at the reception.
Federal Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed delivered a message saying “Today, like yesterday, we have crossed the challenges with victory, we stretch out our hands in thanks.” He explained that they are Ethiopians who spread their hands to the sky in the field and thank their creator.
Dr. Bikila Hurisa, coordinator of the Democracy System Building Center at the Prime Minister’s Office, said that the decisive victory of the Ethiopian athletics team in Oregon showed that if we unite, we can continue to win and overcome all obstacles.
They said that our athletes have made the flag of Ethiopia rise high and its glory has been lifted by their bravery in the world.
Dr. Bikila, who said that the government will give a hero’s welcome to the athletic team tomorrow, also mentioned that a program called “Thank Ethiopia” will be held.
Tomorrow, the people will express their appreciation to the brave athletes and other members of the delegation and give them a hero’s welcome. It is known that the athletic team will be accompanied by the main streets of Addis Ababa city starting at 7:00 am from Skylight Hotel.
Ethiopia, which participated in the 18th World Athletics Championship in which 200 countries participated, won 4 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze medals and finished the competition in first place in Africa and second in the world after the United States.
The Addis Ababa Police announced that some roads will be closed to vehicles as the athletics team will travel through the main streets of Addis Ababa starting from the Skylight Hotel.
