Statement by His Holiness the Holy Patriarch

In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, Amen!

On Sunday, January 22, 2022, three popes appointed 26 bishops in violation of the law.

The Holy Synod said in a statement on January 26, 2022 that the Fathers held a plenary session on January 26.

Listening to the statement, all the priests and faithful of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church expressed their strong support.

The churches and religious institutions of the world expressed their support and wish to maintain the unity and solidarity of the historic Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church.

We would like to thank them for their support and good wishes; Our thanks go out to them.

The leaders of Christianity and Islam, especially the advocates of religious institutions, are shocked and disturbed by the sudden incident in the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church. God bless them.

Once again, we have a message of appeal to our government and our broad people

  1. To respect the law and canon of the historic Orthodox Tewahedo Church;
  2. In the name of God, we earnestly urge you to take the utmost care to end the shedding of Christian blood. Praise be to God, Amen. Abba Matthias I, Patriarch
    The pope of ethiopia, the bishop of aksum and echegge of the seat of tekle haymanot
