Amidst escalating tensions between Somalia and Ethiopia, President Hassan Sheikh Mohammed of Somalia has landed in Addis Ababa. This arrival is particularly significant, given the recent discord sparked by the memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between Ethiopia and Somaliland, which President Mohammed has vocally opposed. His visit to the Ethiopian capital underscores the heightened diplomatic stakes and the urgency of addressing the issues that have strained relations between the two nations.
This diplomatic visit is set against the backdrop of President Mohammed’s attendance at the 34th session of the African Union, an event that draws leaders from across the continent to deliberate on pressing regional challenges. The controversy surrounding the MOU—wherein Ethiopia would recognize Somaliland as an independent entity in return for a 50-year lease on a stretch of its coastline—has thrust Somalia and Ethiopia into a complex diplomatic entanglement, with Somalia asserting that such an agreement infringes upon its sovereignty.
The Somali government’s response to the agreement was immediate and firm, marked by the recall of its ambassador from Ethiopia and a cabinet meeting that reinforced Somalia’s refusal to recognize the MOU. President Mohammed’s outreach to international leaders to rally support for Somalia’s position has garnered backing from Egypt, along with statements from the Arab League, the African Union, and the European Union, all advocating for the protection of Somalia’s sovereign boundaries.
Amid this contentious atmosphere, President Mohammed’s statements to Al Jazeera have made it clear that any diplomatic dialogue with Ethiopia must commence with the revocation of the MOU. While it remains uncertain if meetings between President Mohammed and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed will take place during the visit, the situation highlights the fragile balance between upholding national sovereignty and fostering regional diplomacy. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s recent remarks indicate Ethiopia’s aversion to conflict with Somalia, suggesting a possible avenue for peaceful resolution.
Okay bigots! This photo in your uncomely face! Go find a lake and jump in the deep end and don’t you even think about coming up You will be joined down there by your bosom buddy Iblis to take you to eternal inferno of hell.
I bet you some of those brothers and sisters in Puntland and Galmudug are yelling at Somaliland ‘Pass the Dutchie, bro!’ while the rest are busy shoe shining their Arab-ness. But these ‘Arab-ies’ are still ‘abds’, niggers in el-Sisi’s demographic book.
Wait a minute folks! I hear some loud noise similar to heavy artillery close to the palace in Addis/Finfine. I also see thru my high powered telescope a large army movement entering the palace. But the uniform they are wearing is not the one the ENDF soldiers use. When I zoomed in my telescope I discovered that these soldiers are from the Egyptian army. I tell you whenever el-Sisi says he is going to do something on Ethiopia, he backs it up. I can also see the entire 129 million Ethiopians down on their knees pleading el-Sisi’s soldiers for mercy. You should never forget the ‘Fact’ that Ethiopians were beaten by Egypt as if they robbed a bank in the Old West twice both at Gundet and Gura in 1875. Now they are in town and this time they will liberate Somaliland and will give me my own republic 1952 style. No wonder why certain neighborhood in Minnesota, Knoxville, Flint, Oslo, Stockholm and Melbourne are vacated now. My main man Abdul Fattah el-Sisi is my and Somaliland’s Simon Bolivar, The Liberator. Okay, you so-called patriots! One word out of you! Just even one word!!! Don’t think about it! I congratulate you cadres and traitors paid up by a foreign good-for-nothing!!! I’ve heard a lot about you and how you sustain yourself!!!
