Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – In a bid to tackle the growing traffic congestion in the capital, the Addis Abeba City Traffic Management Authority has announced the implementation of a shift system for Code 2 vehicles during peak hours. This measure is part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at improving traffic flow and reducing the daily gridlock that plagues the city’s roads.

Ayalew Etisa, the director of the Traffic Management Authority, disclosed the plan during an interview with Sheger Radio. He emphasized that this initiative is crucial for enhancing the efficiency of the city’s traffic management system. According to Ayalew, a legal framework has been established to facilitate the alternation of odd-numbered and even-numbered Code 2 vehicles, ensuring a balanced distribution of vehicles on the roads.

“The shift system for Code 2 vehicles will be rolled out within the next three months,” Ayalew stated. “We believe that by alternating the operation of these vehicles, we can significantly alleviate the congestion experienced during peak hours.”

This new measure is expected to provide immediate relief to commuters and contribute to a more organized and smoother traffic flow in Addis Abeba. The Traffic Management Authority urges all drivers to familiarize themselves with the new regulations and cooperate fully to achieve the desired outcome.

Further details on the implementation process and specific guidelines for vehicle owners will be disseminated in the coming weeks. The Authority remains committed to addressing the city’s traffic challenges and ensuring a more efficient and safer commuting experience for all residents.
