Addis Ababa, August 27, 2016 — Addis Ababa University has announced that it will implement a new student admission system starting in the 2017 academic year. This change is part of the university’s plan to transition towards greater autonomy and aims to refine the process by which students are selected for both undergraduate and graduate programs.

According to Dr. Samuel Kfle, Vice-President of Addis Ababa University, the new admission system is designed to admit students based on academic performance and specific skill sets. The system will require applicants to meet certain criteria, including competitive scores on national entrance exams, along with other requirements that may vary depending on the program.

The university has indicated that the new system will also include provisions to support a diverse student body. This will be achieved by offering scholarships funded by the government and covering certain private expenses for eligible students. Special attention will be given to women, students with disabilities, and those from underrepresented regions, in line with the university’s commitment to inclusivity.

The introduction of this new system is seen as a significant step in Addis Ababa University’s ongoing efforts to enhance its academic standards. The university has also confirmed that students who took the national 12th-grade exit exam in the academic years 2014, 2015, and 2016 will be eligible to apply under the new system, provided they meet the updated requirements. Interested candidates can register through the university’s online portal at https://portal.aau.edu.et.

As the 2017 academic year approaches, Addis Ababa University’s implementation of this new admission system will be closely observed, with attention to how it impacts the selection process and the university’s academic environment.
