For nearly a decade, one of Ethiopia’s most soulful voices has been absent from the stage. Now, the silence is finally over. Fekreaddis Nekatebeb, the powerhouse diva whose haunting vocals and emotional ballads once dominated airwaves, is preparing to release her long-anticipated comeback album, Dehna Sow (“Good Person”).

The Voice of a Generation

Fekreaddis first captivated audiences in the late 1990s and early 2000s, a period when Ethiopian music was undergoing a quiet but powerful renaissance. Her voice, instantly recognizable for its richness and emotional depth, carried the kind of raw honesty that transcended trends. With each performance, she created worlds of longing, resilience, and hope—anchoring her firmly as one of Ethiopia’s leading female voices.

Her 2008 album Mesker (Witness) remains a landmark in modern Ethiopian music. Songs like Mesker, Hod Yikir (Forgive My Heart), and Yene Konjo (My Beautiful One) continue to resonate across generations. Blending traditional Ethiopian melodies with modern arrangements, the record became more than just a collection of songs—it was a cultural marker. Weddings, cafés, and radio stations still carry its echoes today.

But after Mesker, Fekreaddis stepped away from the spotlight. For nine years, speculation about her absence grew—some pointing to personal challenges, others to creative burnout. What never faded, however, was the imprint her music left on Ethiopia’s cultural landscape.

The Dawn of Hope: Dehna Sow

Now, nine years later, Fekreaddis returns with Dehna Sow. The title—loosely translated as Good Person—is both universal and intimate, suggesting themes of morality, resilience, and renewal. The album is complete, fully recorded, and ready to be released.

For her fans, Dehna Sow is more than a new record—it’s a reunion. They’ve called it The Dawn of Hope, a symbolic rebirth for an artist who has long been a vessel for collective emotion.

A Historic Launch

The official unveiling will take place on Tuesday, August 20, 2017 (August 26, 2025). The event will gather journalists, fellow musicians, and longtime collaborators. In addition to presenting the album, Fekreaddis is expected to share insights into her future artistic direction—hinting that this comeback may mark a sustained return rather than a fleeting appearance.

More Than Music

For Ethiopian music lovers, Fekreaddis’ return is about more than just an album release. It’s about reviving a voice that shaped their memories of love, heartbreak, and resilience. It’s about reaffirming the role of women in Ethiopia’s music scene, often under-recognized but profoundly transformative.

After nine years of waiting, fans aren’t simply expecting new songs. They are waiting for a revival of feeling, a rekindling of memories, and the return of a voice that has always belonged to them.

The diva is back. And Ethiopia is ready to listen.
