Ethiopian Telemedicine Platform Tenadoc Brings Hospital OPD and International Second Opinions Online

Tenadoc Expands Access to Specialist Care through Key Hospital Partnerships

Tenadoc, an Ethiopian telemedicine platform, has announced two partnership agreements aimed at improving access to specialist healthcare services both locally and internationally.

The platform is available on Android, iOS, and web, allowing users to browse available doctors and hospitals without mandatory registration. Registration is required only when booking an appointment or using consultation services.

Strategic MoU with MeQrez General Hospital

Tenadoc has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with MeQrez General Hospital to digitize outpatient services and improve patient access.

Under the agreement, more than 80 doctors are now listed on the Tenadoc platform, allowing patients to view real-time OPD schedules and book appointments online. This integration improves visibility of available services and simplifies visit planning for both individual patients and corporate clients.

The partnership also enables the hospital to offer video-based follow-up consultations through Tenadoc’s platform, upon patient request. This allows patients to continue care remotely, particularly for reviewing laboratory and imaging results, post-operative follow-ups, chronic disease management, and ongoing treatment monitoring.

International Collaboration with Nanavati Max Super Speciality Hospital

Tenadoc has also signed an MoU with Nanavati Max Super Speciality Hospital, a leading super-specialty hospital in India.

The agreement enables Ethiopian patients to access international second-opinion consultations via video. These services provide additional clinical perspectives on complex diagnoses, treatment options, and surgical decisions.

Independent Digital Platform for Specialist Access

Beyond hospital partnerships, Tenadoc operates as an independent digital health platform connecting patients with specialists and sub-specialists across more than 24 medical specialties.

Doctors are onboarded as independent practitioners, without requiring affiliation to a hospital. They can set their own consultation fees and availability and provide remote consultations at their convenience.

All consultations are delivered through Tenadoc’s secure video consultation system, powered by industry-leading communication technology. The platform uses end-to-end encryption and peer-to-peer transmission to ensure that audio and video data are exchanged directly between the doctor’s and patient’s devices. This approach safeguards patient privacy while enabling low-latency, high-quality video even in areas with limited internet bandwidth.

Patients can pay securely through the telebirr wallet, ensuring a seamless experience. Independent doctors benefit from increased visibility, access to a wider patient base across Ethiopia, and the ability to generate additional income. Patients, in turn, enjoy greater choice and access to specialist care, regardless of location.

Integrated Digital Care Pathway

Tenadoc supports an end-to-end digital care process. Patients can start with a video consultation, after which doctors may request laboratory or imaging tests. Patients complete the tests at nearby facilities and upload the results to the platform.

A free follow-up consultation within seven days is used to review results, discuss next steps, and, if appropriate, issue a digital prescription in line with telemedicine guidelines. Patients can then present the prescription at pharmacies to access medication.

This approach ensures continuity of care while reducing unnecessary hospital visits.

Founders

Tenadoc was founded by Dr. Emebet Eshetu, a gynecologic oncology fellow at St. Paul’s Millennium Medical College. After completing her OBGYN training, she provided free consultations to thousands of patients via phone and messaging platforms, highlighting gaps in access to specialist care. This experience inspired the creation of Tenadoc.

She is joined by co-founder Mulugeta Eshetu, a telecom engineer with over 15 years of experience in mobile network rollout across Africa. His technical expertise has been instrumental in building a reliable and scalable platform, complementing Dr. Emebet’s medical vision.

Together, they have developed Tenadoc into a growing digital health solution that connects patients to specialist care efficiently, securely, and across Ethiopia and beyond.

Outlook

Tenadoc has grown steadily as a self-funded, lean startup, demonstrating that its model works even under resource constraints. Without external investment, the platform has expanded hospital partnerships, added international second-opinion services, and built a growing network of independent specialists across Ethiopia.

This track record of innovation, scalability, and measurable impact positions Tenadoc as a compelling opportunity for investors looking to support the next wave of digital healthcare solutions in East Africa.
