The devastating drought that has been plaguing the Borena zone of the Oromia region for the past few years has caused immense damage to the people and animals in the area. The lack of rainfall in the region has left over 800,000 people facing severe problems, while over 3.3 million animals have died due to the drought.

The zone’s administration has stated that aid provided so far is insufficient to help the victims of the drought. In a statement, the zone warned that if the expected rainfall does not arrive soon, the situation may worsen. While the Oromia Region Agriculture Bureau is providing animal feed, it is not enough to save all the animals.

Jarso Boru, the administrator of Borena Zone, explained that most of the people in the zone are pastoralists who have a close relationship with their animals. The loss of these animals has been devastating for the people in the area, as they rely heavily on their livestock for their livelihoods.

To save at least 10 percent of the remaining 230,000 cattle in the area, 4.4 million tons of grass and 135 thousand quintals of fodder are required. However, only one percent of the latter has been provided so far, making it difficult to save the cattle that are in trouble.

The management of the zone has estimated that the area has lost around 33 billion birr due to the death of horned cattle. This loss has further exacerbated the already dire situation in the area.

The lack of rainfall in the past three years has caused immense damage to the people and animals in the Borena zone. While aid is being provided to those affected, it is not enough to help everyone in need. The situation is dire, and urgent action is needed to prevent further losses and help those affected by the drought.

Drinking water is being provided by government and non-government institutions to the people in the area. However, more support is urgently needed to help those affected by the drought. The zone’s administration has called for more support to be provided to the victims of the drought in the Borena zone.

In conclusion, the drought in the Borena zone has caused immense damage to the people and animals in the area. Urgent action is needed to prevent further losses and help those affected by the drought. More support must be provided to those in need to alleviate their suffering and help them get back on their feet.
