Ethiopia Keeps Fuel Prices Steady in August Despite Currency Floating

Addis Ababa, July 30, 2016 – The Ministry of Trade and Regional Cooperation has announced that the retail sale of petroleum products in August 2016 will continue at the same price as in July.

Minister of Trade and Regional Cooperation, Dr. Kasahun Goffe, stated that an order has been issued to maintain gas station prices at the same level as in July. He also mentioned that strict control and monitoring of fuel distribution and sales are being conducted at every level of the business structure.

This follows a previous announcement on July 3, 2016, where the Ministry of Trade and Regional Affairs announced a significant adjustment in the retail prices of various fuel products due to the increase in fuel prices on the global market. The revised retail prices for fuel products in Addis Ababa were as follows:

  • Gasoline: Birr 82.60 per liter
  • White Diesel: Birr 83.74 per liter
  • Kerosene: Birr 83.74 per liter
  • Airplane Fuel: Birr 70.83 per liter
  • Light Black Diesel: Birr 65.48 per liter
  • Heavy Black Diesel: Birr 64.22 per liter
