Addis Ababa (EBC) – The Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation (EBC) has announced the upcoming premiere of the much-anticipated movie adaptation of Fikir Eske Mekabir following the resolution of a legal dispute.
EBC, as part of its ongoing reforms aimed at informing, educating, and entertaining the public, secured the rights to adapt the iconic literary work Fikir Eske Mekabir into a film. The corporation purchased these rights from Walta Media and Communication, the official copyright holder.
The production of the film had faced delays due to a legal case brought by individuals claiming to be heirs of the renowned author, Dr. Hadis Alemayehu. They sought to block the adaptation, alleging infringement on the author’s legacy. However, in a recent ruling on November 19, 2024, the FederalFirst Instance Court lifted the ban imposed on September 18, 2024, allowing the project to proceed.
EBC stated that its involvement in the adaptation aligns with its responsibility as a national media organization to preserve, promote, and transmit Ethiopia’s cultural and historical heritage. The corporation has previously honored Dr. Alemayehu’s legacy through its acclaimed series Wagayehu Negatu and views the film as a continuation of this commitment.
“We are proud to bring this significant work to the screen, ensuring the vision of the original creator is preserved and shared with a wider audience,” EBC said in a statement.
The movie Fikir Eske Mekabir is set to premiere in a few days on EBC’s entertainment channel. Viewers are encouraged to tune in for what promises to be a captivating portrayal of one of Ethiopia’s most treasured literary works.
