The public prosecutor pressed charges on Misha Adem, IT technician of Jawar Mohammed, the detained member of Oromo Federalist Congress (OFC), for unauthorized telecom infrastructure development on September 2, 2020.
The prosecution alleges Ethiopian-American engineer for violation of the provisions of the Telecom Fraud Proclamation and installation of a satellite device at the residence of Jawar Mohammed without the permission of Ethio Telecom.
According to the accusation, the installed devices have made Internet access available to users within a five to 25 km radius from Jawar’s house located around Japan Embassy, Addis Ababa.
The police had also accused Jawar of using satellite devices and confiscated them from Jawar’s residence last June.
Misha, has appealed for release on bail, and the trial court has rescheduled the hearing for Thursday, September 3, 2020.
Police arrested Misha, his boss Jawar and their colleagues at Oromia Media Network (OMN) with an allegation of calling the violence erupted in Oromia over the killing of the singer Hachlu Hundessa in Addis Ababa on June 29, 2020.
