Tigrayan forces are ready to take part in the Kenyan government’s mediation talks to end their 18-month war with the Ethiopian government.

The letter, signed by TPLF chairman and regional president Debre Zion Gebre-Michael, came after Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed appeared in the House of Representatives to express his government’s desire to end the war peacefully.

The letter from the TPLF did not include any preconditions for the group’s negotiations.

Hailing the efforts of Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta, the TPLF said it was ready to send a high-level delegation to the Kenyan capital, Nairobi.

The letter strongly criticized the African Union (AU) for failing to meet its obligations, and called on the African Union (AU) special envoy to Addis Ababa to return to Addis Ababa in the coming months.

Regarding their readiness for negotiation, he said: “Our readiness to go the extra mile for peace should not be seen as a sign of weakness or greed.”

He called on the African Union, the United Nations, the United States and the United Arab Emirates to take part in the talks.
