The Amhara Regional State Disaster Prevention and Food Security Program reported that the number of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state exceeded 2 million.

As a result of the TPLF’s war in the region, 1.14 million people have been displaced.

Some 918,000 people have been displaced by clashes in Oromia and Benishangul-Gumuz states, the agency stated.

In total, the number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the Amhara region has reached over 2 million.

The agency’s Early Warning and Response Director, Jemberu Dessie, said the number of people displaced by the TPLF attack is increasing.

He added that the relocation of IDPs from Wag and North Wollo woredas to Dessie and Kombolcha has exacerbated the shortage of resources.

More than 500,000 IDPs have taken refuge in the towns of Dessie and Kombolcha, delivering about 300,000 meals a month and other clothing, he said.

“This has made our resources even worse,” Jemberu added.

“They are currently providing emergency assistance to people displaced by the fighting in Debre Berhan, Mekanesalam, Ebnat, Meket, Mertolemariam, Debark, Dabat, Dehana and Sehala areas.”
