The African Union to Honor Emperor Haile Selassie with a statue

The African Union to honor His Imperial Majesty (HIM) Emperor Haile Selassie with a statue in Addis Ababa. The statue will be unveiled during the Assembly of the Heads of State and Government on the 10th February 2019.

The announcement came following the Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Amb. Kwesi Quartey met with Princess Mariam Sena Asfaw Wossen, granddaughter of Emperor Haile Selassie I.

In his statement, the Deputy Chairperson reflected on the vital role Haile Sessasie played in the liberation of Africa and founding of the Organization of African Unity in 1963.

Princess Mariam Sena Asfaw Wossen also expressed her gratitude for the AU in taking the initiative to erect the statue of her grandfather in commemorating his contribution to Pan Africanism.
