Abiy Reshuffles Cabinet, Designates Adanech The New Mayor of Addis

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (Ph.D.) has made 11 major appointments of high ranking officials as of today, August 18, 2020.

According to the PM’s Office statement, the reshuffle installed a new Defence Minister, Kena Yadeta (Ph.D.), the former security chief of the Oromia region by replacing Lemma Megerssa who had been suspended from his party last week.

Additionally, the mayor of Addis Ababa Takele Uma has also been assigned a new role as Minister of Mines and Petroleum. Adanech Abebe, former Attorney General has named as the new interim mayor of the capital replacing Takele.

Gideon Timotewos, State Minister at Attorney General’s office, has replaced Adanech and Tesfaye Daba chairman of the Foreign Relations and Peace Affairs Standing Committee of the Parliament took his position.

Furthermore, the new appointments included Nigussu Tilahun, former Press Secretary of the PM office assigned as the Commissioner of Job Creation Commission; Endawork Abite, the former coordinator for government service delivery institutions of Addis Ababa as director of Metals and Engineering Corporation, Yohannes Buayalew, as director of Ethiopian Foreign Relations Strategic Studies Institute.
