The 6th round of the Amhara Regional Council, in its second year of tenure, held its first emergency meeting in Bahir Dar on Friday. The council discussed the current security situation in the region and reached a consensus that a uniform reform was needed.

The council accepted the resignation of the former governor of the region, Dr. Yelkal Kefale, and appointed Ato Argega Kebeden as the new governor. Ato Argega is a former military officer who has served in various government positions in the Amhara region.

The appointment of Ato Argega is seen as a move to address the security challenges facing the region. He is expected to bring his military experience to bear in the fight against armed groups operating in the region.
