Addis Ababa’s Public Transport Fare Revision with New Rates

The Addis Ababa City Transport Office has announced a revised public transport fare, effective October 16, 2024. The new fares cover mini-buses, midi-bus taxis, and city buses providing services within the city. The revision considers the current retail fuel price and administrative costs.

The new fare structure is as follows:

Mini-buses and midi-buses:

Up to 2.5 km: 4.5 ETB (to 10 ETB)

2.6 – 5 km: 8.5 ETB (to 15 ETB)

5.1 – 7.5 km: 13 ETB (to 20 ETB)

7.6 – 10 km: 17 ETB (to 25 ETB)

10.1 – 12.5 km: 21.5 ETB (to 30 ETB)

12.6 – 15 km: 25.5 ETB (to 35 ETB)

15.1 – 17.5 km: 30 ETB (to 40 ETB)

17.6 – 20 km: 34 ETB (to 45 ETB)

20.1 – 22.5 km: 38.5 ETB (to 50 ETB)

22.6 – 25 km: 43 ETB (to 55 ETB)

25.1 – 27.5 km: 47 ETB (to 60 ETB)

27.6 – 30 km: 51.5 ETB (to 65 ETB)

City buses:

Up to 8 km: 7 ETB (to 10 ETB)

8.1 – 12 km: 11 ETB (to 15 ETB)

12.1 – 16 km: 14 ETB (to 20 ETB)

16.1 – 20 km: 18 ETB (to 25 ETB)

20.1 – 24 km: 22 ETB (to 30 ETB)

24.1 – 28 km: 25 ETB (to 35 ETB)

City Buses – Second tier rates:

Up to 12 km: 10 ETB

12.1 – 23 km: 15 ETB

23.1 – 30 km: 20 ETB

30.1 – 40 km: 25 ETB

40.1 – 45 km: 30 ETB

The office has warned that strict legal action will be taken against transport service providers who do not comply with the new tariff rates. Passengers are urged to report any overcharging incidents to transport inspectors, traffic police, or nearby transport branch offices. Complaints can also be made through the toll-free number 9417.

The fare adjustment reflects the administration’s effort to keep transport services affordable and in line with rising operational costs.
