PM Abiy Ahmed Inaugurates Logo Lake Resort, Signaling Push to Expand Regional Tourism Infrastructure

By Addis Insight February 7, 2026

ADDIS ABABA — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed on Friday inaugurated Logo Lake Resort, a large-scale hospitality development in the Lake City area of the Amhara Region, underscoring the government’s efforts to position tourism as a driver of regional growth and post-conflict economic recovery.

The resort, described by officials as part of the government’s “Gebeta Generation” development initiative, spans 13.3 hectares and combines accommodation, leisure, and transport infrastructure designed to attract both domestic and international visitors.

According to project details released at the inauguration, the resort includes 67 guest rooms with 80 beds, alongside a full-service spa, multiple swimming pools, and indoor and outdoor sports facilities. Supporting infrastructure includes a 3.7-kilometer asphalt access road, a helipad, and a parking facility with capacity for more than 100 vehicles.

The landscaped compound features orchards, gardens, and green recreational spaces, reflecting a broader emphasis on eco-aesthetic tourism development in lake-side and heritage-rich areas.

Government officials framed the project as part of a wider strategy to decentralize tourism investment beyond Addis Ababa and established destinations, while creating employment opportunities and stimulating local supply chains in construction, hospitality, and services.

Tourism has been identified by Ethiopia’s federal government as a priority sector for foreign exchange generation, particularly as the country seeks to diversify revenue sources amid ongoing macroeconomic reforms. Recent initiatives have focused on upgrading regional airports, roads, and hospitality assets to support longer visitor stays and higher-value tourism.

While no official investment figures were disclosed at the event, the scale of Logo Lake Resort places it among the more substantial state-backed tourism projects launched in the Amhara Region in recent years.

Analysts note that sustained security improvements and consistent service standards will be critical for such projects to translate into meaningful tourism inflows, especially as Ethiopia seeks to reposition its international image and attract private capital into the sector.
